What is a well visit?

Annual well visits are an essential part of every child’s care, even if they don’t have any visible symptoms. Well visits allow us to build a complete medical history and monitor your child for any early signs of health issues. During each well visit, your provider will conduct a physical exam, administer vaccines, and assess your child’s developmental milestones and growth since their last visit. We also compare your child’s height and weight with other children in their same age group to make sure their growth is on track.

Early detection saves lives

Your child will go through many stages of rapid physical development as they grow. The sooner we can detect any potential health problems, the better chance we have of treating them successfully. Well visits are a valuable tool used to prevent chronic health conditions and protect your child’s overall wellness. 

This important face-to-face time with your provider also gives you and your child the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you have and get age-appropriate advice for their next stage of growth.

When should your child have a well visit?

Because your child grows so rapidly during their first two years of life, more well visits are recommended during this time. The first visit is usually scheduled a few days after birth and then repeated according to schedule, transitioning to annual visits as your child gets older. You should never skip a well visit, even if your child seems healthy.
